KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak’s Ambrose Jilom ran the race of his life, clocking a personal best to win the boys’ Under-18 100m final in the national schools (MSSM) athletics championships at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
Ambrose, who is trained by former national sprinter Watson Nyambek, clocked 10.98 to finish ahead of Perak’s P. Cyrus Krishnen by just 0.01 seconds. Penang’s Mohd Azlan Abu Bakar took the bronze in 11.01.
The boys’ Under-18 blue riband event was the most keenly contest race on a wet track caused by a heavy downpour just an hour before the final. And Cyrus let out a cry of joy, thinking that he had won the race.
Ambrose, a Form Five student of Riam Road Secondary School in Miri, said that he never expected to win the event.
